Electrical Designer

About This Role

Designing electrical systems for facilities is the core of this role, which involves creating models and construction drawings, as well as complete lighting system designs. The position suits an Electrical Designer who can perform a variety of design functions and assist with cost estimating.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of electrical design functions
• Develop facility models and construction drawings such as plans, one-line diagrams, control diagrams, interconnection diagrams, elevations and details, schedules, and bills of materials
• Complete design of lighting systems for buildings and outdoor areas
• Select fixtures and perform model calculations to determine lighting levels for normal and emergency lighting situations
• Assist with cost estimating and equipment summary for bills of materials

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in engineering from a certified institution
• Four or more years of electrical engineering design experience
• Construction support experience for Title 3 activities
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location)
• Short Circuit Analysis experience
• Working knowledge of the NEC

Nice to have:

• DOE experience
• NQA-1 experience
• Lighting calculation experience
• Familiarity with 3-Dimensional Applications
• Knowledge of broad range of electrical systems, including power system design, substation design, fire alarm design, lighting design, load flow studies, communications design, grounding design, and equipment selection
• Ability to independently produce construction documentation using 2-D and 3-D applications
• Experience in providing construction support or services during construction

• Work format: in-office or remote (preference for in-office in Oak Ridge, TN; employees within 50 miles of Oak Ridge are expected to work from the office; remote employees must travel to the Oak Ridge office quarterly)
