About The Role The Lead Engineer – Electrical Component at GE Vernova will serve as a crucial technical resource in the design and development of electrification solutions for high-voltage substations, primarily focusing on EHV/HV systems. This role involves leading the engineering efforts in system design, material selection, and project execution to ensure that solutions meet client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. The candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, project management, civil, automation, and MEP teams, to deliver comprehensive and efficient solutions for grid-interconnected projects. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, strong technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, ensuring project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, complemented by a minimum of 8 years of experience in EHV/HV substation design. A thorough understanding of power system components such as transformers, switchgear, and protection systems is essential, along with experience in renewable energy integration. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Flexibility for global travel and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients are critical. Familiarity with IEEE/IEC standards, safety protocols, and industry best practices is required, along with experience in project management and leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Design of HV (Primary) systems for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substations, supporting grid interconnection projects.
  • Preparation of fundamental engineering documents including single-line diagrams, layout plans, section drawings of the plant, equipment control rooms, earthing layouts, trench layouts, and other related drawings.
  • Design of earthing, lightning protection, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination systems, sag-tension calculations, short-circuit force analysis, and busbar sizing in accordance with IEEE/IEC standards.
  • Selection and sizing of all project-related equipment, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
  • Preparation and review of all distribution and auxiliary systems associated with substations.
  • Evaluation of vendor drawings, technical proposals, calculations, and specifications to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Design of low-voltage and medium-voltage systems for collector, unit, and pooling substations.
  • Preparation of tender documents, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and finalization of Requests for Quotation (RFQ), including equipment selection based on best pricing and technical fit.
  • Coordination with automation, civil, and MEP teams to ensure seamless integration of systems during project execution.
  • Overseeing site and office teams to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
  • Keeping abreast of global developments in renewable energy technologies and integrating innovative solutions into project designs.
  • Ensuring all designs comply with IEEE/IEC codes, safety standards, and environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Leading client interactions, providing technical consultations, and managing project teams to meet project objectives efficiently.
