Duties
As the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), including the Woods Hole Aquarium, you will perform the following duties:
- Lead the NEFSC’s engagement and shape the future of the NEFSC's academic programs by coordinating internship and other educational programs across the center and seeking opportunities to expand the Center's educational outreach activities.
- Coordinate, conduct, develop and evaluate education, outreach and communication activities such as media campaigns, press releases, OP-EDs, brochures, fact sheets, exhibits, A/V support, volunteer programs, PSAs, curricula, outreach programs, visitor centers (development and programming), exhibits, special events planning, and press conference coordination.
- Establish a system for tracking participants in educational programs and develop metrics to measure the programs' success, including analyzing, developing, and implementing a plan for NEFSC to strengthen existing programs and identify new programs, ensuring consistency in quality and focus of programming.
- Oversee and develop the NEFSC education and outreach plans including reviewing status of current programs and envisioning new programs both short-term (one-year) and long-term (five year).
- Develop and manage the budget for the education and outreach activities while serving as administrative advisor with operational responsibilities including reconfiguring staffing, planning and announcing upcoming programs; and formulating plans for program spending, exhibits, collections and facilities.
- Seek partnerships and collaborations within NOAA and with industry, universities, other government agencies and the general public.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements:
A. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the ZA-4 or GS-13 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZA-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Coordinating the development, operation, and assessment of education and outreach programs and policies.
