About the role
Coastal Mountain Adventures is hiring for upcoming Junior Hikers positions in Greater Victoria. Following a significant amount of interest and positive feedback from families, we are beginning to build our team for Junior Hikers — a small-group outdoor adventure program focused on getting children outside, active and engaged with nature. We are currently interested in hearing from Early Childhood Educators (ECE/ECEA), Educational Assistants (EA), Child & Youth Care workers, education/recreation professionals, and experienced individuals who have worked with children or youth in outdoor settings. Junior Hikers will operate in small groups separated by age, with programming that may include hiking, outdoor exploration, environmental and ecosystem education, age-appropriate outdoor skills and other nature-based activities. We’re looking for applicants who are:
- Energetic, friendly and dependable
- Comfortable hiking and working outdoors in varying weather
- Experienced working with children and/or youth
- Safety-minded and comfortable working as part of a small team
- Interested in outdoor learning, exploration and environmental education Additional assets include:
- ECE/ECEA certification or EA experience
- First Aid/CPR or wilderness/outdoor First Aid
- Child & Youth Care or recreation experience
- Knowledge of Vancouver Island trails, ecosystems or environmental education
- Experience supporting children with additional needs
- Valid BC Class 4 driver’s licence Successful candidates will be required to meet all applicable screening, qualification and safety requirements before beginning work with children. These are upcoming/anticipated positions. Start dates and available hours will depend on final program approvals, enrolment, locations and operational requirements.
