Duty Counsel

About This Role

As a Duty Counsel at Legal Aid Ontario, you will elevate your legal career by providing essential legal support in criminal and family matters. This role focuses on serving the community in Kenora, conducting client intakes, assessing legal needs, and representing clients in court during critical proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel in family and criminal law cases
• Represent clients during court appearances in person and remotely
• Manage client files and data entry accurately
• Conduct intakes and assess client needs effectively
• Facilitate appropriate referrals to additional services

Requirements

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Knowledge of family and criminal law procedures
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Experience with vulnerable populations preferred
• Strong communication and advocacy skills
