About the role
Duties
As a drill rig operator, you will:
- Work with and assist higher graded operators in the set up, maintenance, and operation of various heavy mobile drill rigs, drill bits, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform standard foundation coring and non coring assignments.
- Keep chronological records of drilling activities and report unsafe mechanical conditions.
- Recommend new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment.
Training Requirements
You will be given 45 days from the day you enter on duty to obtain both a forklift certification and a fall protection and rescue certification. Your appointment will be terminated if you fail to obtain either one of these certifications within the given time period.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily outdoors, therefore the employee is exposed to temperature extremes from -20 to 110 degrees, and dirt, dust, mud, rain, snow and ice (field work 95% of time). There is a constant possibility of injury to self and other employees of the work crew if proper safety procedures are not followed. Travel is an integral part of this position and the incumbent will drive long hours to mobilize and set up drill equipment at remote locations; be in travel status a majority of the time (95% of time); and will work a variety of schedules, including longer than normal workdays, and weekends and holidays as required (usually shifts are 10 days on/4 days off, 10 hour days).
Physical Effort
Work is extremely physical and involves handling, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting, carrying and moving heavy drilling equipment. The incumbent frequently handles objects weighing 40 to 75 pounds and occasionally tools, samples, and equipment weighing over 100 pounds. There are also prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing, climbing, reaching and pulling. Pre-employment, as well as periodic, physical exams and drug testing are required.
Qualifications
This position requires you to currently possess and maintain a valid, Commercial Drivers License, Class A.
