Dog Walker

About This Role

This permanent part-time position involves caring for clients' pets as a dog walker and pet sitter, reporting to the office manager. The role suits a self-motivated individual who is passionate about animal well-being and possesses excellent communication and time management skills, thriving on providing top-notch care to pets in the community.

Responsibilities

• Care for clients' pets and homes
• Walk dogs or provide yard time for pets
• Clean litter boxes or enclosures and surrounding areas for cats and small animals
• Keep clients' homes clean of all garbage and messes from visits and pets
• Bring in packages for clients when visiting
• Put out and pull in garbage and recycling cans for clients who are on vacation
• Provide other services that The Pet Lady has agreed to provide during visits
• Drive before, during, and after visits
• Access clients' homes through various methods
• Provide food and water to pets
• Administer medication to pets
• Dispose of animal waste properly
• Monitor the health and safety of pets
• Control dogs of varying sizes and breeds
• Track time, mileage, and manage visits and scheduling conflicts
• Communicate with clients, management, and trainers, including initial consultations and receiving client feedback
• Maintain complete and accurate records relating to services provided, including records of time spent at each visit and mileage between visits

Requirements

• Must live in Elmhurst, Villa Park, Lombard, or adjacent communities
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have consistent access to a reliable vehicle
• Must be available to work between 9am to 4pm, minimum 3 days per week (Monday-Friday) and 1 Weekend per month
• Must have access to a reliable smartphone and have knowledge of how to use apps effectively
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Physical stamina and the ability to control multiple dogs during walks with intermittent hazards such as vehicle and pedestrian traffic
• Willingness to spend a significant amount of time outside and walk dogs in inclement weather (cold, rain, snow, etc.)
• Regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel and crouch
• May need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
• In an emergency situation, required to transport a pet in your personal vehicle to the veterinarian
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Successfully pass a criminal background check
