About This Role
This part-time role involves ensuring the well-being of pets by providing them with exercise and companionship. The position suits a dedicated and passionate individual with experience in animal care and a genuine love for pets, acting as a reliable partner for pet owners.
Responsibilities
- Walk dogs in various weather conditions, ensuring they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation
- Maintain control of dogs at all times, using proper handling techniques to ensure safety
- Monitor the behavior and health of dogs during walks, reporting any concerns to pet owners
- Provide basic care such as feeding, administering medication if necessary, and cleaning up after dogs
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their dog's behavior and needs
- Ensure all equipment, such as leashes and harnesses, are in good condition before walks
- Maintain a positive attitude while interacting with both dogs and their owners
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must live in O'fallon or Lake St Louis
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
- Previous experience in dog handling or animal care is preferred; experience as a kennel worker or veterinary technician is a plus
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and ability to manage different dog breeds
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., carrying supplies or assisting larger dogs)
- Excellent customer service skills to foster positive relationships with pet owners
- Knowledge of basic pet care practices, including feeding schedules and health monitoring
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their well-being
- Must be physically fit to handle long walks and active dogs
