About This Role
Working with dogs and spending time outdoors is the core of this job, which provides mid-day potty breaks and exercise for pets while their owners are away. The role suits someone who loves dogs and can handle various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Check your schedule in the app and determine your next visit
- Review visit details (time, duration, address, notes, etc.)
- Drive to the visit and check in using the app
- Take the client's dog(s) outside for a walk and/or potty break
- Pick up the dogs' waste during the walk, using provided bags
- Ensure the dog(s) get a drink, and refresh water if needed
- Administer any medications, as needed
- Look for and clean up any pet messes/accidents in the client's home
- Using the app, send an update to the client with pictures and relevant notes, and mark the visit as completed
- Repeat the above for all of that day's remaining visits
Requirements
- A love of dogs, and the desire to spend time outdoors walking them
- The strength, coordination, and range of motion necessary to walk multiple dogs simultaneously
- The willingness and endurance to walk dogs for up to an hour at a time, sometimes in hot, cold, or wet conditions
- The ability to pay careful attention while walking dogs, constantly scanning for potential dangers (much like defensive driving)
- The judgment, level-headedness, and confidence to be able to handle situations in a manner that would keep both yourself and the clients' dog(s) safe
Important Details
- Schedule: generally Monday through Friday, with visit times typically between 10am and 3pm; occasional work outside these hours as needed
- Visit duration: usually 30 minutes, can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 60 minutes
