About This Role
This full-time role in the UK is for a DMP/Environment Artist to create photorealistic and stylized environments for high-end film and television. The artist will integrate matte paintings, textures, and projections with CGI and live-action footage.
Responsibilities
- Create digital matte paintings, textures, and models for 2D, 2.5D, and 3D environments
- Integrate DMP work into live-action or standalone shots using Nuke, Maya, and Photoshop
- Prepare projections, models, textures, and lighting setups for CGI scenes
- Assemble DMP projections using cameras and geometry in Nuke
- Develop assets combining digital painting, photogrammetry, and reference photography
- Research and organize reference material and create mood boards for visual development
- Work from photographic references, concept art, or on-set data to meet creative briefs
- Communicate with production regarding schedules, progress, and issues
- Collaborate with CGI and compositing teams to ensure seamless asset integration
- Help troubleshoot and optimize scenes for efficient rendering and delivery
- Participate in developing the look of shots and sequences following the Lead's direction
- Assemble and light scenes when necessary for other shots or animated assets
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in DMP techniques across 2D, 2.5D, and 3D workflows
- Solid proficiency in Photoshop, Nuke, and Maya
- Knowledge of Mari or Substance Painter is valued
- Understanding of matte painting techniques, digital painting processes, and color management
- Good artistic judgment for composition, scale, lighting, and perspective
- Experience with HDRIs, photogrammetry, and on-set or reference data
- Basic knowledge of modeling, texturing, and UV layout; ability to produce simple geometry for DMP
- Good command of environment pipelines within VFX for film or television
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Collaborative mindset and ability to incorporate feedback and adapt
- Comfort working under demanding deadlines and changing priorities
- Good communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented attitude
