Director, Security

About This Role

This leadership role oversees the daily security operations, strategic planning, and execution for a gaming and racing group. The Director of Security manages the department, ensures continuous improvement in service, and safeguards company assets. The role involves enforcing laws and regulations, ensuring the physical safety of guests and team members, and protecting company property from illegal activity.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate security investigation efforts with outside law enforcement agencies to ensure proper handling of civil violations of patrons or team members
• Occasionally appear in court with corporate attorneys to assist in criminal justice proceedings
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with outside law enforcement and other first responders
• Create, implement, and monitor emergency response procedures for fire, flood, or bomb threats
• Work with operating departments to design and conduct highly sensitive investigations into potentially illegal or inappropriate activities
• Meet with departmental leadership to analyze risk management issues, formulate policies, determine needs for security programs, and coordinate with other departments
• Analyze the Security department through data and reports to implement changes for successful future programs
• Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, federal, state, and local laws, and regulations
• Monitor the overall performance of security personnel to ensure compliance with department and property policies and procedures
• Supervise Security programs and processes to reduce and control loss time injuries
• Oversee the safety and security of team members and customers by monitoring, observing, reporting, and taking appropriate action when necessary
• Oversee routine inspections and audits of the gaming floor, parking lots, and other areas to assess compliance with security protocols
• Investigate and respond to escalated security incidents, emergencies, and customer complaints to determine preventative or corrective measures
• Ensure all security-related incidents, observations, and activities are appropriately documented and reported
• Conduct processes for the hiring, training, development, and efficient management of Security staff
• Plan and organize workloads and staff assignments, as well as train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff
• Establish and maintain department standards, guidelines, and objectives
• Oversee other administrative processes, such as budget and staffing, to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of the Security department
• Maintain confidential treatment of all relevant information and follow up on shift reports as needed
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Demonstrated management and leadership skills in security operational effectiveness
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented and thorough with strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent attention to detail and observational skills
• Thorough knowledge of Emergency Response and Disaster Plans, security systems and software, and relevant laws and regulations
• Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure while making sound decisions quickly
• Ability to consistently comprehend, retain, and execute written, verbal, and demonstrated directions, explanations, and guidance
• Bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years of security experience with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience (other combinations of education and experience may be considered)
• Must obtain and maintain valid racing and/or gaming license
• Required to hold a valid Driver’s License with a minimum of three (3) years driving experience
• Must be able to drive company vehicles
• Must provide proof of insurance
• Motor Vehicle background check required

Important Details

• Schedule: long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required
