Director - Risk Management

About This Role

Directing risk management for Amex Bank of Canada (ABC) is the core of this role, leading a team of professionals to identify, assess, measure, manage, and report risk. The incumbent will strengthen the governance structure for ABC, meeting expectations from OSFI/FCAC and the Canada Bank Act, and will contribute to the effectiveness of the enterprise risk management team by leading local projects and creating synergies across international and global peer groups.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Risk Management professionals (managers and analysts) to identify, assess, measure, manage and report risk
• Strengthen the governance structure for Amex Bank of Canada, as per the expectations from OSFI/FCAC and the Canada Bank Act
• Contribute to the effectiveness of the enterprise risk management team by leading the design and execution of projects locally
• Create synergies across peer groups in similar international and global roles
• Proactively identify issues, deliver, and escalate key findings
• Advise on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks
• Communicate oversight findings to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders

Requirements

• 8+ years of leadership experience in risk management, compliance, control management, or a similar role
• Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective
• Ability to balance commercial objectives with sound risk management
• Strong understanding of the payment industry and local regulatory requirements such as the Canada Bank Act as well as OSFI/FCAC guidelines
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure
• Proven leader who can build, inspire, and coach a team with a passion for the business
• Excellent relationship and influence management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across teams and levels of seniority and drive change
• Self-confident with a keen sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a matrix environment within a global organization

Nice to have:

• Advanced degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field or a related quantitative field
• Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA
• Familiarity with analytical methods and tools
