About the role
Director of Structural Engineering & Inspections
Our client is an established, growth-oriented organization expanding its engineering and inspection capabilities across Florida. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Professional Engineer to help shape a growing operation while remaining close to the technical work. The Director of Structural Engineering & Inspections will build and develop a high-performing team, establish scalable engineering and inspection practices, influence technology and workflow improvements, and personally participate in plan reviews and field inspections. For a hands-on engineering leader who wants meaningful ownership, visibility with executive leadership, and the opportunity to build rather than simply maintain, this position offers significant impact.
This Role Offers
- Competitive base salary, based on experience and licensure.
- Performance bonus opportunities tied to business growth and key operational milestones.
- Participation in an annual discretionary profit-sharing program after meeting eligibility requirements.
- 401(k) plan with a 3 percent company safe harbor contribution after meeting eligibility requirements.
- Paid time off, company holidays, and an additional flexible day off.
- Opportunity to help improve technology, processes, quality standards, and team structure while continuing to perform meaningful technical work.
Focus
- Lead the hiring, onboarding, development, and day-to-day direction of engineers, plan reviewers, and inspection professionals.
- Complete structural plan reviews, code evaluations, and field inspections when workload or project needs require senior technical involvement.
- Provide responsible engineering oversight for inspection and plan review services, including review and approval of technical deliverables for Florida code compliance.
- Translate field and plan review experience into practical improvements for digital inspection tools, internal systems, and operating workflows.
- Build scalable quality standards, review procedures, and inspection processes that support consistent service as the Florida operation grows.
- Partner with executive leadership on service expansion, technical strategy, staffing plans, and opportunities to strengthen the inspection business.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for clients, helping communicate engineering requirements, resolve complex issues, and maintain strong project execution.
Skill Set
- Active Professional Engineer license in good standing, with a Florida PE license or the ability to secure Florida licensure through reciprocity within 90 days.
- At least 7 years of progressive structural engineering or building code compliance experience after obtaining PE licensure.
- At least 3 years of direct Florida Building Code experience involving residential and commercial plan review and inspection work.
- Demonstrated success recruiting, training, and managing engineering, plan review, or field inspection personnel.
- Willingness and ability to remain hands-on by personally conducting inspections and plan reviews.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record, qualifying professional, or in a comparable accountable engineering capacity across multiple projects.
- Strong communication, judgment, and organizational skills, with an interest in using technology to improve engineering and inspection operations.
