About the role
Our client is seeking a Director of Finance and Accounting to lead the finance function.
This highly visible leader will partner closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial performance, improve operational discipline, and build scalable processes for continued growth.
The Director will balance strategic planning with day-to-day financial leadership, overseeing accounting, forecasting, cash flow, reporting, controls, and finance operations. This role will manage a team of three finance professionals, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and senior finance support staff.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Finance & Business Partnership
- Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy, planning, and business decisions.
- Deliver forward-looking insights on profitability, growth, utilization, pricing, and operational performance.
- Translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations for department leaders.
- Support long-range planning, scenario modeling, investment decisions, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with operational and client-facing teams to align financial goals with business execution.
Accounting, Reporting & Planning
- Lead all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accurate and timely monthly and quarterly results.
- Maintain strong internal controls, GAAP compliance, and reliable financial data across systems.
- Own the annual budget, rolling forecast, and financial planning processes.
- Analyze variances, identify margin opportunities, and recommend improvements to financial performance.
- Develop reporting for revenue, project profitability, client profitability, utilization, billability, and pipeline conversion.
- Oversee revenue recognition, billing processes, pricing discipline, and contract profitability.
Cash Flow, Treasury & Operations
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and working-capital planning.
- Manage receivables, payables, banking relationships, and treasury activities.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to improve cash conversion and reduce revenue leakage.
- Monitor operating expenses against budget and implement effective cost-control practices.
- Improve finance workflows, reporting capabilities, and system integrity to support a scalable organization.
Risk, Compliance & Team Leadership
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external accounting, tax, audit, banking, and insurance partners as needed.
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Lead, coach, and develop a three-person finance team, establishing accountability and best practices.
- Foster a proactive, service-oriented finance culture that acts as a trusted business partner.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
- Strong background across accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
- Experience partnering directly with senior leadership on business strategy and financial decision-making.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and operational finance.
- Experience improving finance processes, systems, reporting, and business performance.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-driven, project-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent certification.
- Experience with utilization, project margins, client profitability, timekeeping, and project-based billing.
- Experience working with an external or fractional CFO.
- Background overseeing audits, tax coordination, insurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Comfort leveraging modern technology and AI-enabled tools to improve finance workflows and decision-making.
