Director of Facilities Management

About This Role

Directing all aspects of facilities, building services, and fleet operations across assigned locations is the core of this role. This position involves ensuring that all facilities are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with regulatory standards, while also supporting the organization's growth through strategic planning and expansion projects. The role suits a leader with a strong background in facilities management who can oversee diverse teams and complex operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Facilities Management and Building Services departments, including recruitment, training, supervision, performance management, and staff development
• Oversee building operations across all sites, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and security systems
• Ensure compliance with NYC Building Codes, OSHA, EPA regulations, fire safety, hazardous waste disposal, and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements; coordinate corrective actions for any violations
• Develop and implement facilities policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards to ensure consistency and efficiency across locations
• Conduct regular inspections of agency sites, ensuring facilities and grounds are clean, safe, and maintained to the highest standards
• Oversee contracts for repairs, upgrades, and construction projects, including managing bidding processes and ensuring adherence to contract terms
• Provide strategic oversight of the agency’s fleet, ensuring vehicles are maintained, safe, and compliant with applicable regulations
• Develop and manage the division’s annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources
• Collaborate with program and administrative leadership to assess facilities needs, plan for expansion, and support organizational growth initiatives
• Develop and implement a long-range facilities strategy, including sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and external agencies to support timely and effective completion of projects
• Provide staff with safety training and ensure the workplace adheres to agency health and safety standards
• Participate in agency-wide committees and cross-departmental initiatives as a subject matter expert for facilities management
• Prepare reports, data analyses, and projections to inform senior leadership decision-making
• Perform other related duties and special projects, as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• At least seven years of progressively more responsible managerial experience
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety) and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NYC Building Codes, etc.)
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale facilities, multi-site operations, and vendor/contractor relationships
• Proven experience with budgeting, capital project planning, and contract negotiations
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively supervise diverse teams and collaborate across departments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, work order systems, and other facilities management technologies
• Ability to travel regularly across agency sites within NYC
