Director of Facilities Management

About This Role

Optimizing the daily operations of the Facility Management department for a facility between 200,000-500,000 square feet is the primary responsibility of this director-level role. The Director of Facilities Management collaborates with the hospital executive team and other directors to arrange maintenance schedules, orchestrate personnel and contractors for repairs and renovations, and maintain inventory. The role ensures the highest level of safety and compliance with federal and state regulatory code standards at all times.

Responsibilities

• Engage in strategic planning to achieve departmental goals
• Execute strategic plans, routine maintenance programs, and special initiatives while supporting the vision, mission, and values of the organization
• Foster team development by instilling trust, delegating responsibilities, and motivating individuals to utilize knowledge, skills, and abilities to create a successful, engaged team environment
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with others from diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and talents, from technicians to corporate executives
• Exhibit organizational and problem-solving skills, independent judgment, and attention to detail
• Utilize building science education, knowledge, and experience to ensure effective and energy-efficient operation of the facility, within the parameters of the departmental budget
• Demonstrate working knowledge of HVAC systems, steam systems, and normal and emergency electrical systems, emphasizing systems and components typically found in acute care facilities
• Assume responsibility for the assignment and completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks using HCA Healthcare’s CMMS
• Establish work permitting and policy standards for facility staff and vendors to ensure compliance with federal and state work-safety guidelines (i.e. OSHA)
• Assume all responsibility for direct reports, including selection and hiring, scheduling, staff workload management, education and training opportunities, team building events, annual performance evaluations, conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and dismissal
• Identify development opportunities or training needs of individual employees and teams
• Provide coaching, feedback, and training to improve performance
• Mentor, train, and develop managers and supervisors as part of HCA’s Succession Planning program
• Execute the corporate-provided plan of succession, including development and training of the manager of facility management
• Manage components of regulatory compliance pertaining to Environment of Care, Life Safety Code, and Emergency Management
• Maintain all relevant regulatory compliance documentation utilizing HCA Healthcare Engineering technology platforms
• Conduct regular maintenance, inspection, and testing of Life Safety systems
