Behavioral Health Director

Location: Torrance, CA

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Compensation: $94.00–$140.00/hour

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Director to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership across an LPS-designated adult behavioral health facility. This role will split time between the hospital's inpatient unit and outpatient center and will have broad responsibility for operations, staffing, quality, regulatory compliance, and departmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for behavioral health operations across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Split time between the hospital inpatient unit and outpatient center
  • Oversee daily operations, staffing, hiring, performance management, and workforce planning
  • Provide leadership and oversight for approximately 120 FTEs, with a primary focus on approximately 50–65 employees
  • Lead Case Workers, Social Workers, Nurses, and other clinical and ancillary caregivers across multiple sites
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics, performance indicators, and data-tracking processes
  • Drive continuous quality and process improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with LA County and California state behavioral health regulations
  • Navigate regulatory requirements associated with an LPS-designated facility
  • Manage and support a unionized workforce, including employees represented by CNA and NUHW
  • Provide financial oversight and contribute to strategic planning and departmental objectives
  • Assess, coordinate, and integrate behavioral health services and standards of care
  • Support educational, clinical, research, administrative, and community outreach activities
  • Collaborate with Medical Directors and other clinical leaders on performance improvement and patient care initiatives
  • Provide leadership that supports the organization's mission, vision, goals, and objectives
  • Maintain a strong focus on patients, physicians, caregivers, volunteers, and the surrounding community
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies by phone as needed

Required Qualifications

  • BSN required
  • MSN preferred
  • CA RN License required
  • 3–5 years of behavioral health experience
  • Progressive leadership and management experience
  • Experience working in an LPS-designated facility
  • Experience with LA County behavioral health regulations
  • Experience managing a unionized workforce
  • Familiarity with CNA and/or NUHW represented workforces
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage operations, and drive quality improvement

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Candidates must also be available by phone for after-hours emergencies.
