About the role

Position Summary:

The Activities Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Activities Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility to assure that the our patients/residents receive activities for their emotional, social, physical and therapeutic needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops and directs the Activities department programs and events.
  • Manages the activities functions to ensure activities for ambulatory, non-ambulatory and bed-bound residents.
  • Determines departmental scheduling and staffing requirements necessary to meet the activities departments' needs hours in keeping with census and labor budget.
  • Maintains open and trust-building relationships with resident family members, responding professionally and promptly to any requests or concerns.
  • Assures that detailed records of activity programs and participation of individual residents, identifying progress toward established care plan goals are maintained.
  • Participates in patient/resident care planning by identifying the activity needs of residents and working in coordination with the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Assist with quality assurance audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversees the sourcing, bid management, purchasing and inventory levels of materials necessary for upkeep and maintenance of activities.
  • Proactively maintains effective employee relations and engagement to achieve business objectives and positive morale.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Leadership and communication skills to direct and motivate staff.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and delegate tasks efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in managing time and handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Required:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3 years management experience preferably in an activities role.
  • 2 years experience in social or recreational program within last 5 years, 1 of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.
  • Must be qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.

Preferred:

  • Prior supervisory experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for skilled nursing facilities.

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, and pushing carts.

  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays when required.
