Director, Field Training

About This Role

Directing and coordinating the on-the-job training and apprenticeship program for field operations employees, particularly Line workers, is the core of this role. It involves working with various levels of management to ensure new and progressing craft employees receive appropriate work assignments and projects that reinforce their classroom training and enhance their knowledge and skills in work methods, tools, and safety practices. The position also oversees the development of processes for monitoring, supporting, assessing, and providing continual feedback on the work performed by craft employees, and manages the professional development of assigned Field Training professionals.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the implementation of on-the-job training programs and schedules that support the education and training of craft employees and supervisor technical and refresher training
• Ensure craft and compliance field training is consistent with and supports work standards and procedures, proper use of tools, materials, equipment, and other work practices for new and progressing employees in Electric Operations
• Collaborate with training supervisors and Operations managers on the creation of training performance assessment tools, materials, and apprenticeship programs for field trainers to evaluate employee performance in all crafts
• Partner with Operations managers to create a work plan and budget that aligns with classroom training and fosters the application of skills and knowledge to progressing employees in all crafts (overhead, underground, stations, meters, gas, driver)
• Implement criteria and evaluation tools necessary to accurately assess and measure the work performed and progress made by craft employees in various stages of their apprenticeship
• Ensure development and implementation of new equipment training
• Ensure development of processes to address observed and documented gaps between craft employee performance and Company policies and procedures
• Define the necessity for, and means by which, immediate and continual feedback regarding job performance is delivered
• Document and summarize performance results used to evaluate craft employee proficiency levels and adherence to work standards and safety procedures
• Document and ensure operations certification and qualifications
• Ensure assessments are used for developing written progress reports and on-the-job training summaries to provide written feedback and creation of development plans
• Partner with training supervisors and Operations managers to ensure technical training programs are designed to close performance gaps and are connected to measurable performance improvements
• Oversee the management and development of Field Training staff
• Manage, select, coach, and develop Field Training staff
• Ensure the maintenance of training and compliance records
