Director, Design

About This Role

Directing the seasonal design process from initial color concepts to production fittings is the core of this role. The Director leads the design team in executing the original design direction set by senior leadership, ensuring brand identity and business strategy are met.

Responsibilities

• Develop each season
• Manage and communicate design direction to the design team
• Be responsible for all fabric selections, styles, trim, and color themes, ensuring they are client and time-appropriate
• Provide general direction for silhouette in partnership with Design and Merchandising teams
• Be responsible for all prototypes put into work
• Inspire the Design team to present new and innovative ideas
• Partner with Merchandising and Product Development to ensure product maintains brand identity and meets business strategy
• Provide direction for the fit of garments
• Interpret global and domestic concepts and fashion trends as they relate to market demands
• Manage staff in all aspects of product development, including market research, mood boards, designing, specing, and fit
• Facilitate communication between Merchandising, Product Development, Production, and Design teams
• Work in conjunction with the Senior Vice President to seasonally prepare the Spectrum concept
• Approve off-standard colors for production with the tech color team
• Final sign-off on the line
• Be accountable for process improvement, growing business, and seeking opportunities to positively affect the division and company
• Be responsible for the selection, development, and retention of team members
• Mentor and coach direct reports on performance expectations
• Provide a positive, challenging work environment

Requirements

• Bachelor
• 10 years of experience in Design, with some time spent as a Designer in a large corporate setting
• Exceptional sense of style, fabric, color, and technical knowledge
• Creative and innovative design and conceptualization ability
• Exceptional leadership and managerial skills
• Strategic and analytical thinker
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and persuasion skills
• Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions
• Highly organized and has the capacity to anticipate change based on events and adapt quickly
• Excellent decision-making and time management skills
• Ability to travel internationally
