About the role
The Director will provide strategic leadership and vision for the Bezos Centre, spearheading leading-edge interdisciplinary translational research and innovation to accelerate the commercialisation of alternative proteins, and building the Centre into a multimillion-dollar, self-sustaining entity within 5 years.
Profile Sought:
- Established academic leader with an international reputation.
- Typically a Full Professor with a distinguished academic and research track record.
- Strong publication, citation, and research impact record.
- Proven ability to secure major research grants and lead large multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience managing academic institutes, centres, departments, or large research programmes.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Spearhead and manage the Centre to fulfil its strategic objectives and deliverables in accordance with agreed timelines.
- Set the strategic direction and vision for the Centre's multidisciplinary research agenda and PI community.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to advance research and innovation for alternative proteins.
- Recruit and develop world-class faculty and researchers to build the Centre's academic reputation.
- Secure grants and sponsorships for the growth of the Centre, supporting global food sustainability beyond the initial 5-year horizon.
- Communicate effectively with the Centre's stakeholders, advisory board, industry partners, and other organisations.
- Work closely with government regulatory ecosystem to drive start-ups and scale-up of commercialisation efforts.
- Represent the Centre at academic conferences, industry events, and relevant initiatives, building the Centre's global reputation.
- Ensure high-quality outcomes and timely reporting of deliverables to the board.
- Contribute to the research and education agenda of the Department of Food Science and Technology, concurrently holding a tenure-track or practice-track professorship in the Department.
Qualification & Requirement:
- PhD in a relevant field from an internationally reputable university.
- Full Professor (or equivalent) with a distinguished academic and research track record, including strong publication, citation, and research impact.
- Proven track record of securing major research grants and leading large, multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience managing academic institutes, centres, departments, or large research programmes.
- Deep expertise in sustainable food systems and protein-related research, with the ability to drive research translation, nurture visionary talent, and foster cross-pollination across academic, industry, and policy stakeholders.
- Strong insight into the issues and challenges in the food systems and sustainability landscape, with the vision to expedite widespread adoption of alternative proteins across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
