Direct Support Professional - Respite

About This Role

This role provides one-to-one direct care for children with special health care needs, offering families relief from their responsibilities. The Respite worker implements a safety and service plan, with duties varying based on each child's specific needs. It suits individuals looking for part-time opportunities in direct care.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe one-to-one care for children with special health care needs as directed by parents/caretakers
• Provide socialization opportunities within and/or outside the home when appropriate
• Provide family with relief from caring for their child with special health care needs
• Perform all necessary self-care tasks as needed by the individual supported
• Provide transportation to and from all social activities only as approved by parent/caretaker
• Carry out specific tasks outlined in the respite safety and service plan
• Provide required documentation to coordinator in a timely manner (timesheets and incident reports, if needed)
• Be on call as needed per approved hours and parent request
• Contribute to positive morale by representing the agency through professional communication and interactions
• Arrive punctually and participate in all required meetings and trainings
• Drive people to destinations necessary for them to experience a full and diversified life, following all safety and legal regulations
• Provide support to other areas of the agency, as needed
• Respond effectively to potential safety hazards and emergencies
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment by being respectful of property and equipment
• Follow proper maintenance instructions
• Report incidents as required by regulations
• Ensure workplace safety
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED/Hi Set
• Standard driver’s license – class C or class D
