Diesel Mechanic

About This Role

Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles is the core of this role. This position involves a wide range of mechanical and electrical repairs on diesel-powered vehicles, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain motorcoaches, commercial and non-commercial vehicles, and other equipment as directed
• Follow Cummins warranty processes and procedures, including proper documentation and claim requirements
• Interpret and apply technical manuals, service bulletins, and repair guidelines
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment free from hazards and unnecessary distractions
• Understand and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT requirements
• Accurately document repairs on work orders using shop computers and associated software
• Maintain accurate time and attendance records
• Perform road calls when required, including travel to customer locations to diagnose and perform repairs
• Maintain a valid DOT Medical Card as required
• Continue developing technical knowledge and repair skills to support shop operations
• Demonstrate professionalism while upholding ABC’s core values
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• Diesel engine repair experience required
• Ability to perform troubleshooting and diagnostics to identify mechanical and electrical repair needs
• Ability to interpret technical manuals and service documentation
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple repair tasks and priorities
• Must possess the tools necessary to complete assigned responsibilities
• Experience with body and frame repairs
• Experience with interior component repair or replacement
• Ability to identify parts required to complete vehicle repairs
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Reliable attendance
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to travel and perform road calls when required
• Ability to work overtime or weekends when needed
• Ability to move items weighing at least 100 pounds
• Ability to stand and move for extended periods of time (80–100% of shift)
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time

Nice to have:

• 2–4 years of diesel, motorcoach, transit bus, or heavy commercial vehicle repair experience
