About This Role
This Dialysis Technician role in the Harborview Kidney/Dialysis Department provides front-line dialysis and pheresis services. The position involves preparing, assembling, operating, and monitoring equipment for treatments, as well as preparing dialysis solutions. It suits a technician committed to quality control and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide front-line dialysis and pheresis services
- Prepare, assemble, operate, and monitor equipment used for dialysis and pheresis treatments
- Prepare dialysis solutions and concentrates
- Participate in quality control on dialysis equipment
- Assemble, prepare, prime, and preset dialysis and pheresis equipment and materials in the dialysis lab and at patient bedside according to nephrology orders
- Maintain current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment
- Reprocess and disinfect hemodialysis equipment per policy and procedure
- Aseptically dispense dialysis solution to include calculating, measuring pre-weight of dry chemicals, and verifying through chemical analysis for accuracy
- Make changes in dialysis composition by compounding any additions
- In coordination with RN, perform bedside plasmapheresis treatment
- Participate in on-call coverage rotation for urgent dialysis set-ups outside laboratory business hours
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree with emphasis in chemistry, biology, or medical sciences AND two years experience in a medical laboratory to include one year in a dialysis/pheresis laboratory at the level of Dialysis/Pheresis Technician Trainee
- Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration
