About the role

Global Developer Community & Ecosystem Lead

Location: Hybrid in Mountain View, CA (2 to 3 days/week in-office required)

Duration: 6-month contract (due to special projects; potential for extension)

Role Overview & Objectives

An innovative robotics and automation technology leader is launching an open-source robotics platform for developers. The primary objective of this role is to drive, nurture, and manage the developer community centered around a new "Developer Hub" housing news, tutorials, webinars, and events.

  • Target Audience: Open-source robotics developers (aiming to build an ecosystem scaled on par with tier-one global developer ecosystems).
  • Community Scale: Expected to take over a community of ~1,000–2,000 developers upon starting, with a team goal to scale beyond 3,000 sign-ups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execution & Operations (80% Execution / 20% Strategy): Program and project manage community engagements, developer events, webinars, tutorials, and communications including email cadences and forum posts.
  • Developer Engagement Strategy: Map out audience insights, engagement frequencies, and communication channels.
  • Bug Triaging & Feedback Loop: Serve as the direct liaison between the developer community and internal Product & Engineering teams. Collect feedback, triage product bugs, and communicate releases and bug fixes back to the community.
  • External Representation: Act as the visible, public point of contact on developer forums.
  • Platform Management: Oversee the current hub launch and lead V2 updates scheduled for November.

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience Level: 6+ years of relevant experience minimum (no upper cap; looking for maturity to handle engineering pushback independently).
  • Core Competencies: Strong project/program management skills and hands-on experience managing and nurturing developer communities. (Note: Coding and hands-on software development are not required).
  • Domain Focus: Strong preference (80% weight) for Open Source Community experience over traditional B2B Enterprise SaaS sales.
  • Preferred Backgrounds (Ranked):
  • Robotics developer communities (Top Priority)
  • B2B Developer Software / SaaS programs
  • Major tier-one consumer/developer tech ecosystem programs (building toward "an operating system for robotics")

Technical Knowledge & Tools

  • Developer Forums/Channels: Deep familiarity with Discourse and Discord is mandatory. Exposure to GitHub (critical for cloning products), Reddit, and Slack is preferred.
  • Domain Tools/Knowledge: ROS / ROS 2, Gazebo, Python, and C++ domain awareness.
  • CMS & Internal Tools: Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow) is helpful for managing the Developer Hub. Internal triaging uses Taskflow (can be learned on the job)
