Design Manager
Fortitude Valley, Brisbane | Permanent Full-Time
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Design Manager with a strong interior design background to join a growing property and hospitality group based in Fortitude Valley.
This is not a traditional architecture-led Design Manager position. The business is looking for someone with creative flair, a strong eye for finishes, materials and spaces, and the ability to translate ideas into practical design outcomes across a diverse portfolio of hospitality, retail and accommodation assets.
Working closely with Project Managers and broader business stakeholders, you will help shape and maintain the design identity across the portfolio while also getting hands-on with smaller design projects.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will take ownership of design standards and provide creative design support across multiple business units and asset classes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Create, refine and maintain design specifications and document libraries across the portfolio
- Ensure consistency and compliance with agreed design standards across different asset classes
- Undertake design reviews and provide recommendations across projects
- Deliver smaller in-house design projects such as accommodation room and amenities refreshes
- Support Project Managers with QA and defect reviews
- Assist with RFIs relating to finishes, materials and design intent
- Provide design advice across capital expenditure projects
- Contribute to value management reviews, including alternative finishes and product selections
- Balance design outcomes with practical cost considerations
- Produce 3D elevations and visual concepts to support project presentations where required
About You
The key to this position is your interior design capability and creative eye. You may already hold a Design Manager title, or you could be a strong Interior Designer ready to step into a broader position.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Formal qualifications in Interior Design or a related discipline
- Strong experience across interior design, preferably within hospitality, hotels, retail or commercial environments
- A strong eye for finishes, materials, colour, furniture and overall design aesthetic
- Experience developing or maintaining design standards and specifications
- Ability to review designs and confidently provide creative input and direction
- Understanding of project budgets and the cost implications of design decisions
- Experience working alongside Project Managers, contractors and suppliers
- Capability with relevant design and 3D visualisation software
- A practical, collaborative approach with the confidence to take ownership of design decisions
Importantly, the business is not looking for someone who is heavily architecture or technically focused. They are looking for someone who brings genuine artistic flair and interior design sensibility, while still understanding how their ideas translate into real-world projects.
