Design Director

About This Role

Directing design for the Scaling Engagement product area, this role involves owning the experience that helps teams and entire organizations gain lasting value from Mentimeter, beyond the immediate session. It is for a design leader who shapes the work by setting direction, rather than solely managing it. This position operates within Product Area Leadership, collaborating with the Product and Engineering Directors, and within the Design Leadership Team, partnering with the Chief Design Officer and other design leaders. You will define the experience direction for your product area and ensure design decisions lead to measurable customer and business impact.

Responsibilities

• Set the experience direction: Define a clear experience vision and architecture for your product area, and uphold the quality standard to realize it
• Design for value that grows: Transform engagement into lasting results, insight, and adoption, designing for the team and the organization, not just a single session
• Turn data and insight into experience: Treat analytics, results, and recommendations as core design material, utilizing AI to help teams and organizations identify what matters and act on it
• Drive product impact through design: Own the connection between design decisions and key metrics, including retention, expansion, and the depth and breadth of Mentimeter adoption by teams
• Lead as a peer in the area: Collaborate with the Product Director and Engineering Director to shape area strategy and roadmap, integrating user and experience thinking into directional decisions
• Own coherence across the Engagement Suite: Take responsibility for experience quality where journeys span adjacent areas, ensuring scaling engagement feels like a connected experience, not separate tools
• Develop the craft and the team: Recruit, coach, and grow Product Designers primarily through the work itself, including a dotted-line group of designers in the Growth area, honestly calibrating performance and having direct conversations that foster growth
• Raise the bar with your peers: Work with fellow design leaders to maintain shared experience principles and a shared quality standard across the craft, providing and receiving critique at a leadership level
• Evolve practice through AI: Advance how design understands, explores, prototypes, and delivers with AI, increasing speed and quality while safeguarding product thinking and craft

Requirements

• 10+ years in design, including mid-to-senior management experience leading designers in fast-moving, product-led organizations
• Proven track record of creating impactful product outcomes through design leadership and delivery
• High personal design capability, with a portfolio that demonstrates craft judgment and range
• A player-coach leadership style: credible with senior designers, and effective at developing them through the work
