About the role
Duties
As Deportation Officer (Course Developer/Instructor) you will develop, design and coordinate courses, workshops and seminars. Provide classroom instruction in the following subject matter areas: Immigration Law, Naturalization Law and administrative law, methods of preparing, presenting and defending cases, activity preparation tasks for Deportation Officers (DO) and Enforcement and Removal Assistants (ERA), electronic case management systems, Field Operations training, defensive tactics/use of force, firearms training, physical techniques, Spanish language training, and driver's training. Specifically, you may:
- Serve as an expert consultant in a broad specialty area of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and law enforcement techniques;
- Determine the need for and generate surveys and studies;
- Serve as the principal advisor on all administrative management matters associated with programs and operations for the ICE Training Academy;
- Be responsible for creating and modifying courses and their related course material;
- Evaluate course content and student learning experiences to recommend enhancements or solutions to problems.
Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience performing duties such as:
- Developing course outlines and lesson plan materials;
- Planning, developing, and implementing broad training programs, including high quality firearms, law enforcement, detention and removal training techniques;
- Participating in the planning, analysis and decision-making processes for the development and delivery of training courses, while coordinating more than one activity concurrently;
- Providing authoritative technical expertise in this complex law enforcement topical area;
- Providing professional instructional methods and theories used in a formal classroom environment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
