Department Manager of Structural Engineering

About This Role

Directing the Structural Engineering department is the core of this leadership role, which also involves shaping complex facility projects for major North American brands. You will lead an established team of talented engineers, drive technical excellence, mentor future leaders, and guide the department's strategic direction. This position suits a licensed Civil/Structural Engineer with significant experience in project leadership and team management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Structural Engineering team through coaching, mentoring, and strategic staffing
• Serve as Structural Engineer of Record (SEOR) on projects throughout the United States and Canada
• Participate in the company proposal process by reviewing scope and developing structural design fee estimates to generate comprehensive and competitive proposals
• Oversee project execution, resource planning, quality control, and department performance
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and engineering standards
• Contribute to business growth, client relationships, and the long-term success of the firm
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, high-quality design solutions

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Structures emphasis preferred)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Ability to obtain licensure throughout the United States and Canada
• 10+ years of structural engineering experience, including project leadership responsibilities
• Demonstrated success in leading, managing, mentoring, and building engineering teams
• Experience designing and analyzing structural steel
• Experience designing and analyzing reinforced concrete
• Experience designing and analyzing masonry systems
• Experience designing and analyzing cold-formed metal framing
• Experience designing and analyzing deep foundations
• Experience designing and analyzing precast concrete systems
• Experience with RAM Structural System
• Experience with TEDDS
• Experience with Hilti PROFIS Engineering
• Experience with L-Pile
