Database Administrator

About This Role

Entarian is seeking a Database Administrator to support the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This role involves creating and implementing new database solutions, monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data security and access control.

Responsibilities

• Create new database solutions and implement them properly based on overall project requirements
• Monitor overall database performance to ensure end users are receiving the information needed in as little time as possible
• Troubleshoot performance issues, identify the problem and promptly fix it
• Run tests on the new solution to ensure it functions correctly before fully rolling it out, including creating test scenarios to immediately identify and correct problems
• Control access and permissions for accessing customer databases, including verifying access requests and revoking access as directed by the customer
• Create and maintain all database documentation, including documenting data policies and procedures as well as data standards
• Perform security-related maintenance such as security patching, software patching and database upgrades within set maintenance windows
• Work with storage engineers to expand/reclaim DB space as needed
• Provide support creating and maintaining databases associated with AWS-specific DB technologies such as RDS, AWS RedShift and MySQL
• Support a 24x7x365 ops team as part of a rotating on-call schedule

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of experience monitoring, updating/patching, data recovery and general maintenance
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate
• Experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Redshift database technologies; hands-on SQL DBA (not a managerial position)
• Server troubleshooting experience (OS is Linux/Windows/VMware/AWS/Azure)
• Knowledge of day-to-day SQL database operations, deployments and development
• Extensive database experience with RDS, AWS Redshift or MySQL
• Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
• Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
• Experience SQL and Performance tuning
• Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards
• Quick learner, self-starter with strong troubleshooting and communication skills
• Strong customer service skills and ability to work in team environment
• Able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship in order to obtain Public Trust Level 6 required

• Extensive database experience with RDS, AWS Redshift, MySQL, SQL, Oracle
