About The Role We are seeking a mid-level SQL Server Data Engineer who possesses a comprehensive understanding of managing data at scale. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining robust database systems that support the company's analytical and operational needs. This role involves collaborating closely with software engineers and data scientists to enhance data flow, troubleshoot system issues, and improve database performance. The Data Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring data integrity, availability, and security, facilitating efficient data pipelines and reporting capabilities. The position is fully on-site in St. Peters, MO, requiring a dedicated professional who is eager to learn, adapt, and contribute to a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or an equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a SQL Server Data Engineer
  • Deep understanding of SQL, database design, and normalization principles
  • Strong knowledge of Database Engine internals including buffer pool, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing
  • At least 2 years of experience creating, managing, and monitoring data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
  • Proficiency in SQL, Transact-SQL (T-SQL), and stored procedures
  • Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and database troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C# or Python is preferred
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools is advantageous
  • Ability to work effectively in an in-office environment in St. Peters, MO
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude towards learning and development

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance new and existing databases to meet organizational requirements
  • Write efficient SQL queries and T-SQL stored procedures to support data operations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues promptly, documenting solutions for future reference
  • Optimize query performance through rewriting, indexing, and improving database schema
  • Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to streamline data collection, processing, and reporting workflows
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders, document specifications, and implement solutions accordingly
  • Monitor database health and system performance, taking proactive measures to prevent system failures
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations and procedures
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and continuously develop new skills relevant to the role
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment
