Data Center Server Operations Manager, Global Server Ops

About This Role

Directing the operation of server infrastructure in data centers and leading a team of technicians is the core of this role. It suits a manager with experience in computing infrastructure, networking, and operating systems, who can ensure the quality installation and troubleshooting of server hardware and components within Google's global server operations.

Responsibilities

• Support 24/7 Surge team operations in the Dulles International Airport (IAD) metro, with potential assignments in day, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts
• Contribute to efforts and projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure
• Oversee the day-to-day management of teams within data center operations while working together to identify and resolve problems and create solutions for the global computing and network architecture
• Hire, coach, and develop a team while achieving strategic business goals and ensuring data center-related priorities are consistent with company objectives
• Demonstrate the ability to manage the implementation of projects within the team and drive a culture of safety at the site, while fostering a collaborative team environment

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 5 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware
• 2 years of experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management and delivery
• Experience in people management, career coaching, career development, and operations management
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required

Nice to have:

• Experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management and service delivery
• Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure, and network and compute architecture and lifecycle, and linux/unix system administration
• Experience with initiating and executing initiatives in a global environment
• Experience with data gathering, analysis and presentation skills
• Track record of leading and improving environmental health and safety initiatives
