About the role
Customer Solutions Specialist – Advanced Battery Systems
Solid-State Batteries | Automotive | Marine | Energy
Clutch Industries – Melbourne, Australia
Work with next-generation battery technology being developed into real-world products.
Clutch Industries is an Australian automotive manufacturing and product-development business with two complementary divisions: our established automotive driveline business and Density, our advanced battery and power systems division.
Density operates as a dedicated technology division within Clutch Industries, working with leading battery technology partners and our Australian engineering and manufacturing capability to bring solid-state battery technology into automotive, marine, portable power, energy storage and specialist applications.
We’re looking for a Customer Solutions Specialist to join the Density team as we grow.
This is not a call-centre or traditional travelling sales role. You’ll be based at our contemporary Coburg North technology centre, working with engineering, product, manufacturing and commercial teams across Density and Clutch Industries. You’ll also engage with customers, partners and industry contacts through occasional site visits, demonstrations and selected trade shows.
It’s a technical, customer-facing position for someone who enjoys understanding how things work and helping customers turn an idea or requirement into a working solution.
You’ll sit at the intersection of customers, technology, sales and engineering, while working within the broader Clutch Industries business.
What you’ll work on
You might specify a battery and power system for a marine application, support an automotive electrical system, develop a portable power or energy storage solution, or help an Australian manufacturer integrate next-generation battery technology into its product.
You’ll work with technologies including:
- Solid-state and advanced lithium battery systems
- 12V, 24V and 48V architectures
- High-power DC systems
- Inverters and power electronics
- DC-DC conversion and charging
- Solar and MPPT systems
- Battery management systems
- Automotive and marine electrical systems
- Connected and intelligent power products
- Emerging battery applications
You’ll develop a strong understanding of our technology and help customers understand what’s possible.
Your role
You’ll be a key customer-facing technical representative within Density, working with customers to understand their applications, define requirements and develop practical solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting new battery and power applications
- Translating customer requirements into system solutions
- Providing technical guidance before and after purchase
- Specifying batteries, charging, power conversion and associated hardware
- Supporting prototypes, installations and early customer projects
- Preparing solutions, proposals and quotations
- Working with engineering and product teams on new applications
- Supporting Australian manufacturers integrating Density technology
- Building relationships with commercial customers, distributors and technology partners
- Identifying new applications and commercial opportunities
- Supporting selected trade shows, industry events, demonstrations and presentations
- Preparing technical content, demonstrations and application examples
- Feeding customer requirements into future product development
You’ll also work alongside our established Clutch Industries automotive driveline team, supporting UniClutch and Clutch Industries products where required.
You don’t need to arrive as a clutch expert. We’ll teach you the products. You’ll provide first-line application and product support, with experienced team members available for complex technical matters.
Who are we looking for?
We’re more interested in ability, curiosity and potential than finding someone who has spent 20 years doing exactly the same job.
You could come from:
- Electrical or electronic engineering
- Mechatronics
- Automotive engineering or auto electrical
- EV technology
- Battery or energy storage
- Marine technology
- Solar and off-grid systems
- Motorsport
- Robotics
- Product development
- Technical sales or applications
You may be an engineer who enjoys working with customers, an exceptional technician looking to move into technology and product development, or an experienced technical sales professional seeking closer involvement with products and engineering.
A degree is welcome but not essential if you can demonstrate strong technical ability.
You’ll probably love this role if…
You want to know why something works, not just which part number to order.
You understand the fundamentals of voltage, current and power and are comfortable with wiring diagrams and a multimeter.
You can discuss technical requirements with an engineer and explain the solution clearly to a customer.
You enjoy technology, working with people and representing a company at customer meetings, demonstrations and trade shows.
Most importantly, you’d rather help build something new than support the same products indefinitely.
Why Clutch Industries and Density?
Clutch Industries has been manufacturing automotive products in Australia for more than 70 years.
Our established automotive driveline business includes products such as UniClutch, while Density is our dedicated advanced battery and power systems division. The two divisions operate in parallel, sharing the strength of Clutch Industries’ Australian manufacturing, engineering and product-development capability while pursuing different technology and market opportunities.
Density represents the next chapter in that capability. We’re combining Clutch Industries’ manufacturing and product-development experience with some of the world’s most advanced battery cell chemistry specialists to bridge the gap between new battery technology and real-world products.
Our focus is not simply selling batteries. We’re developing complete battery and power solutions for consumer, automotive, marine, industrial and energy applications, while working with Australian manufacturers to explore the potential of next-generation energy storage.
You’ll be based at our Coburg North technology centre, surrounded by the people and equipment involved in developing, testing and commercialising these products. This is a collaborative, hands-on environment rather than a traditional field-representative role.
You’ll join early enough to influence how our products, applications and customer relationships develop. As Density grows, we expect this role to grow with it.
If you’re excited by batteries, electrification, automotive technology, marine systems, power electronics and building things that haven’t been done before, we’d like to hear from you.
