Critical Facilities Engineer

About This Role

This engineering job involves maintaining and evolving the critical infrastructure that powers the digital world for customers. The role focuses on moderately difficult assignments, requiring judgment in resolving issues and making recommendations while supporting the overall team.

Responsibilities

• Perform moderately difficult preventative and corrective maintenance checks on-site to facility components
• Perform moderately difficult repairs, maintenance, installations, and on-site inspections to facility systems
• Support energy efficiency measures
• Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and resolve moderately difficult alarm issues that require judgment in resolving while following standard operating procedures
• Operate and maintain plumbing, fire suppression, and safety systems
• Operate critical infrastructures under the supervision of more senior technical staff
• Receive little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments
• Support the work approval process for service providers on moderately difficult maintenance work, for tracking: briefing at the start of work, work during the workday/shift, and final review of the work carried out
• Ensure vendor maintenance activities are carried out as per Equinix's standard operating procedures
• In cooperation with vendors, support modifications to technical files for plants and equipment ensuring files and builds are up-to-date
• Perform moderately difficult site logs for permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOPs) and scripts
• Identify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and make recommendations
• Respond to all moderately difficult on-site incidents, including failures, problems, and delays
• Use substantial understanding in following operating procedures to support on-site administration
• Complete routine work requests and circuit installations
• Troubleshoot and maintain office equipment (if necessary)
• Support auxiliary equipment and machines with problem solving and repairs to avoid/minimize downtime
• Make minor changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialized systems, as directed
• Carry out infrastructure projects
• Collaborate with others to resolve moderately difficult facility incidents
• Effectively collaborate within the department
• May mentor team members on general maintenance activities
• Provide stakeholders of inventory needs in order to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment
• May recommend infrastructure projects

Requirements

• High school diploma
• 2-4 years of equivalent work experience
