CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR

Duties

You will:

• Serve as a team leader (Associate Special Agent in Charge), overseeing the day-to-day activities of the National Computer Forensics Laboratory including the review and coordination of all investigative, operational, and administrative matters. Determines responsibilities and priorities, implements OCEFT's strategic plan, makes work and case assignments, determines material, equipment and facilities needed, recommends appropriate incentives, plans and carries out training and development of employees and assures safety practices.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct the execution of search warrants involving the search and seizure of computer, electronic, and Internet evidence.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct the detailed forensic laboratory analysis of computer, electronic, Internet evidence, and train other Agents in forensic analysis.
• Prepare search warrant affidavits and comprehensive laboratory analysis reports. Brief prosecutors and testify as an expert witness in judicial proceedings.
• Plan, coordinate, and deploy sensitive covert surveillance equipment in support of criminal investigations. Conduct research and development and fabrication of covert surveillance platforms and train others in the use of all types of surveillance equipment.

Qualifications

You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-14 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as experience in government law enforcement agency; experience in environmental criminal investigative techniques to include review and coordination of investigative matters; experience in execution of search warrants and seizure; and experience in deploying surveillance equipment.

5. Knowledge of sound forensic laboratory analysis techniques. Must be well trained and very experienced in the complex forensic analysis of seized computer and Internet evidence.
6. Knowledge and experience in the preparation of complex search warrant affidavits involving the seizure of computer, electronic, and Internet evidence; sound written reporting of forensic analysis activity; ability to effectively testify as an expert witness in judicial proceedings.
7. Knowledge of modern law enforcement surveillance equipment and the laws and regulations governing their legal use and admissibility during criminal proceedings. Must be well trained and experienced in the planning, coordinating, and deploying these types of equipment. Knowledge of basic electricity, electronics, photography, video, sound, and principles of effective training. Ability to customize and fabricate custom technical surveillance platforms and the ability to train other investigators in the practical and legal aspects of law enforcement surveillance equipment.
