Anticipated School Nurse
Essential Functions:
Work closely with students in meeting their needs (i.e. tube feeding, suctioning, injections, etc.).
Collect medical statements from the sources, which support the need for any related service for a student. Attend PST, IEP, and/or 504 meetings if needed. Maintain computer program documentation of daily tasks with the students.
Refer to the Lead Nurse as needed for medical concerns. Assists Lead Nurse with staff training programs for the administration of medications and the operation of healthcare equipment (AED’s, etc.) as needed. Active CPR Instructor Certification required. Participates in and/or coordinates health programs and services for designated students. Assists with recommendations for exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with applicable policies and guidelines on infections and contagious diseases/conditions. Assists School Nurses with coordinating and implementing health screenings mandated by state law. (e.g. spinal screening, vision, hearing, etc.) Assist with field trips and other similar experiences. Notify Lead Nurse at least 24 hours in advance of anticipated personal leave. Notify Lead Nurse as soon as possible of needed sick leave. Responsible for taking care of student needs in the absence of School Nurse when substitute is unavailable. Conduct vision/hearing screenings on special education referrals, re-evaluations, and PST referrals, if needed, and complete appropriate forms.
Notify Lead Nurse for equipment or materials necessary to meet the needs of the students while at school. Itinerant Nurse will be supervised as specified according to the policies and procedures of the Jackson County Board of Education and Alabama Board of Nursing. Assist Lead Nurse with supervision of LPN’s as specified according to the policies and procedures of the Jackson County Board of Education and Alabama Board of Nursing.
Maintain confidentiality of all student records.
Any and other essential functions assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
