About the role
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cost Representative I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting project cost control functions through maintaining accurate cost data and assisting with earned value tracking and reporting. This position focuses on learning cost systems, processes, and procedures while contributing to data accuracy and project team support.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVE
To support project cost control by ensuring the integrity of cost data, assisting in reporting, and developing foundational knowledge of cost systems and earned value practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain cost system data integrity and ensure accuracy of entries
- Assist with earned value tracking and basic forecasting activities
- Generate standard cost reports for project teams
- Support contract and commercial analysis efforts
- Follow established processes, procedures, and deadlines
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and project teams
EDUCATION:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree
- Preferred: Degree in Business, Engineering, or Mathematics
EXPERIENCE:
- 0–1 year of relevant experience (entry-level)
- Internship or exposure to cost, accounting, or project environments preferred
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability to learn systems, processes, and cost methodologies
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- General office environment with occasional exposure to construction site conditions.
- Frequent use of computers, calculators, printers, and other office equipment.
- Requires close vision, color perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Fast-paced and variable work environment.
