Cost Accountant

About This Role

This Staff Cost Accountant position supports the month-end close process and the cost accounting function. The role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory, analyzing excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory, closing manufacturing work orders, and coordinating recurring review meetings with cross-functional stakeholders. It suits a candidate with strong attention to detail and familiarity with cost accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and book journal entries as part of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in accordance with GAAP and company policy
• Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies between physical counts, system records, and general ledger balances
• Prepare the excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory analysis template, evaluating inventory aging and recommending reserve adjustments
• Review and close completed manufacturing work orders, ensuring costs are properly relieved and variances are analyzed and recorded
• Schedule and facilitate recurring review meetings with relevant stakeholders (e.g., operations, supply chain, finance) to discuss inventory, cost variances, and close-related items
• Support other month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities as needed
• Assist with internal and external audit requests related to cost accounting and inventory
• Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes and internal controls

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment
• Working knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and month-end close processes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Oracle ERP experience required
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple deadlines
