Corrections Officer

About This Role

Working as a Corrections Officer involves making a positive difference to people's lives in a challenging environment. You will support people in Prison to reach their potential by engaging with them positively and influencing change through your daily interactions. The role involves supervising people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them to educational programmes or other appointments, and monitoring, assessing, and managing behaviour and safety to lessen conflict within the units.

Responsibilities

• Work in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues
• Engage with people in a positive way to change lives within the Prison and whānau
• Supervise people in Prison with their daily routines within the unit(s)
• Escort people around the site to education programmes or other appointments
• Monitor, assess, and manage behaviour and safety
• Help control and lessen any conflict within the unit(s)

Requirements

• Ability to engage with whānau, iwi, and hapū

• Ability to work rostered shifts across a 24/7 pattern, including weekends and public holidays
• Current and full New Zealand driver licence or Restricted Licence with the ability to sit your full licence within the next 3 months
• Legal right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 24 months remaining

Nice to have:

• Experience within a Kaupapa Māori or Pasifika environment
• Relevant experience within a people-focused role (e.g., Security, Police, Military, Healthcare or similar) where you have built an understanding of how to facilitate positive outcomes for others

Important Details

• Training: fully paid, commencing with Custodial Core Learning (CCL) which involves an initial week's induction onsite, six weeks at the National Learning Centre in Wellington, then six weeks back at your site, before graduating
