Responsibilities
- Maintain control of the institution by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Supervise and direct incarcerated individual activity in assigned areas
- Ensure assigned areas remain clean, safe, and secure
- Conduct incarcerated individual counts, security rounds, inspections, and searches
- Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers
- Complete required reports and documentation
- Prevent escapes and respond to incidents that threaten institutional safety or security
- Operate vehicles for perimeter security and transportation when assigned
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations
- When necessary, use approved physical force, unarmed self-defense techniques, firearms, or other authorized force to detain or secure incarcerated individuals
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Successfully pass the required Correction Officer assessment or have successfully completed the assessment within the previous 24 months
- Valid driver’s license required for positions assigned to transportation
- Meet all Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction employment requirements
- Probationary period is 365 days
