Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Industry Supervisor to work at the Vandalia Correctional Center. This position coordinates the operations of the Department of Labor Apprenticeship, Heavy Equipment/CDL Training, and Recycling/Reclamation Program. They are responsible for instructing and directing Individual in Custody students in the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the Heavy Equipment/CDL Training, Gardening/Urban Agriculture Program. Essential Functions

• Supervises staff.
• Instructs individuals in custody students in the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the Heavy Equipment/CDL Training, Gardening/Urban Agriculture Program, and Recycling/Reclamation Program.
• Coordinates the operations of the Department of Labor Apprenticeship, Heavy Equipment/CDL Training, and Recycling/Reclamation Program.
• Acts as staff assistant to Industry Superintendent (Public Service Administrator) in the overall operation.
• Reports infractions of rules in accordance with Administrative Directives.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school or completion of an approved training course.
• Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in a field related to the position to be filled.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefers at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in a correctional and/or similar setting.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience of the practices, methods, tools, and materials of a trade commonly taught in vocational education.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience maintaining discipline, safety, and an effective learning environment.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience maintaining workflow in a group setting.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in management of tools in a correctional setting.
• Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Prefers at least two (2) years of experience maintaining program schedules.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
• Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
• This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
• Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
• Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
