Correctional Program Officer Discipline Hearing Administrator

About This Role

This role involves overseeing the inmate discipline hearing program within a correctional setting. The administrator is responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of Discipline Hearing Officers (DHOs), as well as developing policies and procedures to maintain the program's integrity. The position also includes reporting on DHO activities and acting as a consultant on inmate discipline matters.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct input concerning the selection of Discipline Hearing Officers (DHO)
• Train all newly appointed DHOs, Alternate DHOs, and/or Captains
• Develop policy and procedures required to implement and maintain integrity of DHO Programs, which may include Community Corrections Centers (CCC) and Community Corrections Management offices
• Provide reports of DHO activities, findings, and significant trends
• Participate in staff assistance visits by inspecting security and correctional operations and allied functions at designated institutions, involving inmate discipline and other procedures relating to or affecting the security of the institution
• Confer with appropriate institution officials to discuss findings and recommendations
• Assist in the preparation of manuals, bulletins, and memorandums for region-wide or individual application defining Bureau policy on inmate discipline procedures
• Occasionally serve as a consultant to both Federal and non-Federal officials on matters of inmate discipline
• Investigate and respond to administrative remedies, congressional inquiries, and general correspondence raised by inmates, Regional office staff, Congressmen, Senators, and other third parties
• Directly supervise all DHOs assigned to various locations throughout and within the region
