The ideal candidate is a collaborative attorney with strong contract negotiation skills and experience working with both government and commercial counterparties. This position works under the direction of the General Counsel and collaborates with internal teams and external counsel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal guidance across business operations and corporate initiatives, balancing legal risk with business objectives

  • Support transactions and contracting with both commercial and government counterparties, including municipalities, state and federal entities, prime contractors, and subcontractors
  • Advise on government contracting matters, including RFP/proposal terms review, required contract clauses and flow-downs, subcontract terms, and coordination of compliance obligations (as applicable)
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to advance fiber and fixed wireless infrastructure initiatives, including issue-spotting on project delivery, contract performance, and change management (e.g., change orders and scope adjustments)
  • Identify legal risks, recommend mitigation strategies (e.g., insurance/indemnity, limitation of liability, warranties, and dispute resolution), and deliver practical, business-focused solutions
  • Support contract management and administration processes, including stakeholder review, approval coordination, and documentation of key terms and decisions

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the Alaska Bar Association
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed attorney
  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial and procurement contracts

Nice to have:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a licensed attorney for a Senior Corporate Counsel role
  • Experience supporting government contracting, including proposal/RFP review, contract drafting/negotiation, and compliance matters
  • Regulatory experience in a regulated industry (e.g., utilities, energy, transportation, healthcare, environmental, infrastructure, or government)
  • Infrastructure, construction, or large-scale procurement contracting experience; telecommunications experience is helpful but not required
