About the role
Behind Every Strong Crew Is a Team That Keeps Them Going.
Turn Your Food Service Experience Into a Career. Bring the skills you've developed in restaurants, institutional kitchens, catering, or other food service environments to California State service, where your experience can support a meaningful mission while opening the door to long-term career opportunities.
Bring your culinary skills to a career with purpose! As a Cook Specialist II with CAL FIRE's Tehama-Glenn Unit, you'll prepare nutritious, high-quality meals while helping support the personnel who carry out our mission every day. In addition to meal preparation and service, you'll help lead kitchen staff, plan balanced and cost-effective menus, coordinate food orders and inventory, and ensure food service operations meet health and safety standards. You'll also have the opportunity to support emergency operations by preparing meals when and where they're needed most.
This isn't your typical food service position. As a Cook Specialist II, your work directly supports the people behind CAL FIRE's emergency response mission. You'll combine culinary skills with leadership, planning, organization, and teamwork to keep personnel fueled and ready for the demands of the job. From everyday meal service to supporting emergency operations, the work you do helps keep CAL FIRE moving.
