About The Role As part of the global controls team at AWS, you will work with highly motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. Your primary responsibility will be to troubleshoot, manage projects, and maintain the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) within AWS data centers. You will utilize Amazon's leadership principles to develop new processes, standards, and innovative solutions in the controls space. This role involves working with complex mechanical and electrical components, including generators, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and various control systems that interact through open or proprietary communication protocols. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all mechanical and electrical systems operate efficiently, reliably, and securely, supporting AWS's mission to deliver continuous and scalable cloud services.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) related to construction and project execution
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science plus 5+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 10+ years of relevant controls experience without a degree
  • 5+ years of experience with industrial controls in critical environments such as data centers, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil & gas, or power plants

Responsibilities

  • Train and support internal customers and stakeholders in the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of BMS and EPMS systems
  • Provide technical assistance and support to operations throughout the data center lifecycle
  • Review quarterly maintenance results and action items for BMS and EPMS, ensuring timely resolution
  • Develop project scope, schedule, budget, and level of effort for BMS and EPMS initiatives requested by stakeholders
  • Manage scope, schedule, financials, and execution of BMS and EPMS improvement projects in AWS data centers
  • Assist in procurement activities including RFQs, proposals, vendor evaluations, and purchase order issuance
  • Participate in AWS global on-call schedule to provide immediate technical support for in-service data centers
  • Attend project meetings, coordinate with project leaders, and report project status to management and stakeholders
  • Support commissioning activities for controls projects within data centers
  • Review, troubleshoot, and iterate on controls sequences of operation, providing feedback to design teams
  • Develop and modify controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces
  • Manage multiple stakeholder requirements and navigate challenging situations effectively
  • Oversee financial management of BMS and EPMS service contracts
  • Conduct regular visits to operational and under-construction data centers to troubleshoot, supervise vendor work, and ensure compliance with scope and codes
