Controller

About This Role

The Controller will lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for a publicly traded organization, working closely with an experienced executive leadership team and having direct exposure to senior management. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a lean organization that is investing in its infrastructure, processes, and growth strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Own financial statement preparation and reporting
• Lead SEC reporting, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
• Research and resolve complex technical accounting matters
• Lead SOX 404(a) compliance and internal controls over financial reporting
• Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation
• Coordinate external audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors
• Oversee general ledger accounting, revenue recognition, AP, AR, payroll, and related accounting functions
• Manage and develop accounting staff
• Oversee tax compliance and coordinate with external tax advisors
• Manage treasury, cash forecasting, banking relationships, and liquidity planning
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
• Prepare financial analysis and actual-to-budget reporting
• Partner with leadership on pricing, contracts, cost management, and other business decisions
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and system efficiencies
• Remain hands-on and willing to assist with day-to-day accounting activities as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• Public company experience required
• SEC reporting experience required
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Leadership experience within an accounting function
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP
• Experience with SOX and internal controls
• Comfortable working within a small, lean accounting environment
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Nice to have:

• CPA preferred
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Previous Controller or similar accounting leadership experience preferred
