About the role

Duties

  • Provides a focal point within FDA to whom all levels of FDA personnel may turn for guidance and consultation regarding inspection and investigation methods and procedures necessary to accomplish compliance/enforcement/regulatory objectives.
  • As assigned, participates in the evaluation of compliance/policy activities.
  • Identifies areas which warrant further study or improvement and prepares report to ensure optimum operating efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Reviews special and unusual problems submitted by various center/offices and provides guidance to resolve the issues causing the problems. Such issues frequently deal with the interpretation of law, policy and procedures.
  • Drafts responses to correspondence from within and outside the agency concerning FDA regulated products.
  • Prepares and present informal remarks at briefings, training sessions, and other internal stakeholder meetings.
  • Attends meetings with FDA staff.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Successful completion of a full 4 years courses of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor degree or higher degree that included at least 30 semester hours in one or combination of the following: biological sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, or related scientific field that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety work. The 30 semester hours can include up to 8 semester hours in statistics, or course work that included the principle, theory, or practical application of computers or computer programming.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience--courses consisting of at least 30 semester hours in the fields of study described in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Requirements:

In addition to the basic requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience,equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, that include experience in coordinating policies and procedures necessary to accomplish compliance/enforcement/regulatory objectives; providing basic technical and policy advice/guidance; coordinating the establishment of new regulations, procedures and/or programs conducting research into legal precedents and legislative history of the Acts enforced by FDA.

Successfully completion of two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a field related to the duties of this position or possessing a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field related to the duties of this position.

Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education in a field related to the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.  

Documenting experience:  In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description.  Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
