About This Role
Caring for and smoothing the surfaces of freshly poured concrete is the main task of the Concrete Finisher. This role involves using a variety of hand and power tools to achieve specified textures on floors, walls, sidewalks, highways, or curbs, and is suitable for a hardworking and motivated individual ready to contribute to heavy civil construction.
Responsibilities
- Signal concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete
- Move discharge chute off truck to direct concrete into forms
- Spread concrete into inaccessible sections of forms using a rake or shovel
- Level concrete to specified depth and workable consistency using hand-held screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping
- Smooth and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using a straightedge and float or power screed
- Finish concrete surfaces using a power trowel or wet and rub concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish
- Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using a power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound
- Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
- May sprinkle colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish
- May produce rough concrete surface using a broom
- May mix cement using a hoe or concrete mixing machine
- May direct sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms
- May break up and repair old concrete surfaces using pneumatic tools
- Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
- Adhere to all Hunter Contracting Co. safety policies, procedures, and instructions from Management
Requirements
- Practice good safety habits
- Ability to read tape measures
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of structures, highways, or roads
- Judge distances and slopes accurately
- Knowledge of construction specifications
- Knowledge of machines and tools
