Duties

As a Computer Assistant, NK-0335-02, you will perform computer assistant duties in administering the base local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN), and provide guidance on technical aspects of desktop computers, network, and software use to organizational users. You will also:
-Analyze trends and identify potential problems.
-Use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc.
-Perform a wide variety of record keeping, updating existing information work management system databases, and reporting.
-Perform base operator functions which encompass directory assistance and the connection of morale calls and other overseas calls.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

You must have one (1) year of specialized experience (52 weeks of full time experience) at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower pay band (NK-01), grade (GS-04) level, or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as knowledge of basic LAN/WAN and system principles and practices sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot desktop level components and software.

OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Successfully completed education 4-years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university*.    NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION IF USING EDUCATION AS A SUBSTITUTION OF EXPERIENCE.*

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of basic LAN/WAN and system principles and practices sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot desktop level components and software.
  2. Knowledge of customer support principles, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions and providing guidance to customers.
  3. Knowledge of concepts and techniques required to assist in the planning, operation, and maintenance of a LAN/WAN, including the installation and implementation of enhancements.
  4. Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis.
  5. Ability to analyze routine network problems and recommend solutions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

 

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE:  Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
