This role is for a Communications Manager who is passionate about the real-life impact of AI on people and places and wants to communicate Verkada's story to the world. The successful candidate will instinctively understand Verkada's place in the news cycle and the importance of communications in building and maintaining brand trust. This individual will join a small, collaborative communications team, owning projects end-to-end and working with urgency.
Responsibilities
Drive proactive media strategy across business, technology, trade, and vertical press
Develop vertical narratives that connect Verkada's technology to real-world problems (e.g., rising retail crime, warehouse safety compliance, school security, healthcare facility management) and pitch them with specificity and conviction to relevant reporters
Build and maintain relationships with reporters covering enterprise tech, AI, physical security, and the industries Verkada serves
Write across various formats: press releases, pitches, bylines, briefing documents, messaging frameworks, op-eds, talking points, and FAQs
Prepare spokespeople for media with interview prep, message development, and ongoing coaching
Monitor the news cycle and respond quickly and strategically to breaking developments, such as surges in retail crime, workplace safety incidents, or shifts in the regulatory landscape
Use AI tools to perform job duties more effectively and efficiently
Requirements
7-12 years of communications experience in-house at a tech company and/or at an agency with significant B2B/enterprise clients, with a strong media relations track record
Vertical storytelling instincts, demonstrating a fast, credible understanding of the industries Verkada serves to identify product impact and transform it into pitches
Writing that earns trust, characterized by clear, concise, and human prose, even when explaining complex or nuanced topics
Sound judgment under pressure, with the ability to prioritize effectively when everything feels urgent and distinguish between fast and sloppy work
A builder mentality, contributing ideas, owning outcomes, and not being afraid to experiment within a lean, collaborative team
Nice to have:
Experience in enterprise SaaS or adjacent B2B verticals
Experience with research-driven storytelling and proprietary data initiatives
Familiarity with crisis communications and issues management
Experience supporting a company through a period of high growth
